Happy New Year!!!!!
Yes, we are back in Arusha, but school is closed until 6 January.
What do you do when the school is closed? Enjoy the quietness and tranquillity of the school grounds, then turn on AC/DC as it's too quiet.
We caught up with Megan and received a bag of supplies (Cadbury chocolate, Vegemite, etc). She is leading the Back Track trip to Mt Meru, Mt Kilimanjaro and on safari for the next few weeks.
This week I was struck down with the upset tummy bug for about 24hrs, but over it now....I hope.
The blog is early this week as from Thursday we are going our separate ways...no we are not separating, just going on different adventures. Denise heads off to Mwanza for a girls weekend with some of the girls from St Jude's, while I head off to climb a little mountain with a couple of other people.
Our New Year was quite, by choice, for two reasons. The main one was I didn't want to risk anything ahead of my little walk, and secondly we were doing an airport run for a 9pm pickup. Now there's another part of driving I haven't experienced before.
Driving here at night is worse than driving in the day, and I thought the day time was bad. Additional factors at night, limited lights or no lights and things on the road including people, animals and objects, most of which blend into the night. This makes overtaking interesting but luckily I had good headlights to see what was coming before passing. At one stage nothing was coming so I pulled out to pass only to see a truck in front of me, woops. The truck only had the right headlight working so it wasn't seen until I had a clear view of the road ahead. After that it was ease out very cautiously.
New Year, around the school at least, is celebrated with fireworks so at 23:58 they started going off, to the point where I sent an SMS home saying The whole place is either at war, or it's just fireworks. A few minutes later, after checking out the window, I sent a follow up message, Nahhh. I think it's just fireworks. Goodnight.
There will be no blog next weekend, so expect the next one after my little climb so won't be until at least 14 Jan.
Until next time
Aha Pete!
ReplyDeleteI must admit, I have not been keeping up with your blog. Facebook took over….
I understand both the feelings about staying on or going…Been there, done that!
I am in a similar state of mind at present. John
