Week 50 at School/on Safari

1 week to go.

We are just back from a fantastic safari....and the blog is accepting pics.  Better late than never I suppose.

For those reading the online blog, there is more if you click on the Read more>> button below.
Last weekend we went away with two of the volunteers and had a great time.  We went away not really knowing where we were going or what we were going to do and ended up doing a safari, visiting Lake Chala and finding a good hotel that was also cheap.  We have recommended it to a few people here already.

From last Wednesday we went on a 4 day safari to the Serengeti and Ngorongo to see the wildebeest migration and everything that goes with that and also to see if we can see rhinos and cheetahs.  Our itinerary was:

Day 1

Drive from Arusha to Ngorongoro conservation area to Ndutu Area where the great migration animals are expected to be, the time to visit Ndutu is during the rainy season. After the first heavy storms the plains are instantly transformed and the migrant wildebeest, zebra and Thomson's gazelle come feast on the lush green pastures and give birth to feast on the lush green pastures and give birth to their young... other variety of animals including - lions, cheetah, hartebeest, dik-dik can been seen!  Stay overnight at Ndutu Safari Lodge –www.ndutu.com

Day 2

Full day at Ndutu area game driving, towards to Naabi Hiil Gate, return to Ndutu Safari Lodge for overnight

Day 3

Morning at Ndutu, then drive to Ngorongoro Rim – overnight at Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge

Day 4

Morning descend to the crater for crater tour – afternoon exit the crater and drive to Arusha.

Well the result was we were in the migration for 2 days, saw many cheetahs including cubs who were feeding on a recent kill, lions, and today we got to see the elusive rhino - 3 of them.  So we have now seen the big 5 and many more and we can leave happy thanks to Hassan our driver and friend, and also Mercy and Simon who made this last safari all possible.

Yep, they're lions.  I can take on all of 'em

A small part of the migration

My handover is nearly complete and I am hoping for a relaxed week.  Let's see how that plan goes.

Our final visitors left on Wednesday as did we on our safari.  Now it is time to begin packing and start saying our goodbyes.

Until next time.
