Week 38 at School

Last weekend we went to a Christmas party followed by a 25th wedding anniversary.  The Christmas party was for work and most people were there.  The anniversary was one we could have stayed longer, but were too tired.

For those reading the online blog, there is more if you click on the Read more>> button below.

The 25th wedding anniversary was for Simon and Mercy and although it was all in Swahili we really enjoyed it.  We arrived late and when Simon & Mercy saw us we were ushered to the front with their parents.  It was a big event with at least 100 people there.  We weren't sure what to expect, but as I have said expect the unexpected.

There was a DJ and an announcer who seemed to talk most of the time until they lost power.  It was a big deal and we had a wonderful time.  When the power didn't look like it was returning any time soon we decided to leave.  We were escorted back to our car, and drove about 50mtrs on a single lane road and them stopped as someone had blocked the road.  We were about three cars back with at least another 3 behind us.  After about 20 mins with lots of talking in Swahili it was off again.  This time for about 5 mtrs then another 15 min stop before we finally got going.

This weekend we are going back to Lake Chala, about 2 hrs east of Arusha on the border of Tanzania and Kenya.  Hopefully they haven't killed all the elephants.

One more week of work before a 4 week break, 2 because the school is closed.  During that time we will get two visitors, Megan and Carlene.  Both will be here around the same time, but we will manage.

Next weeks blog will be written on the coast of Tanzania.  Looking forward to that, but I have the feeling it will come with the tropical heat as well.

I just checked how long before we depart.  We have:
47 working days left (less any public holidays that may occur)
13 weeks before we fly out
98 days before we set foot in Oz

But who's counting.

The school was without water from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning, but at least we had drinking water so that's a start.  After training on Thursday evening, it brought back memories of trekking.  At least we have water now and I hope it stays that way, but who knows, this is Tanzania

Until next time.

  1. Hello P, big hug D - I've enjoyed your postings during the year, an insight into another world, but one not unlike remote communities here. Have a nice break, a fabulous Christmas, and a terrific New Year xox
